According to a recent study by the Environmental Working Group (EWG) which examined ten different brands of bottled water in 9 stats (plus D.C.) and found higher than normal concentrations of more than 38 chemicals, averaging 8/brand. While they did not disclose the other nine brands, the EWG DID single out Wal-Mart's brand of bottled water, 'Sam's Choice' as containing especially high levels of contaminants - high enough to be illegal in California.

Even more interesting, they traced the source of the Sam's Choice water (from stores in Oakland and Mountain View, CA) back to the Las Vegas Valley Water District's public water supply (which is sometimes chlorinated). When asked about this peculiarity, the District's spokesman, Scott Huntley, claimed no knowledge of Wal-Mart's use of the public water supply for bottling.

Yesterday the EWG filed a formal law suit against Wal-Mart for not warning the public about the risks of drinking their (polluted) water. Wal-Mart, of course, is denying any prior knowledge and claims to be launching an investigation but Senior Communications Manager, Shannon Frederick, said:
