tertium non data: gülnur özdağlar

tertium non data translated from latin means: the third is not given. it is an alchemic term which refers to the process of combining two disparate elements to create a new, third element. the process of transformation is a mystery - an unknown... Things made by GULNUR OZDAGLAR

Reusing PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles, gülnur özdağlar fashions some awesome objects and intriguing jewelry. The jewelry, specifically, is a collection of transparent pieces, reminiscent of jellyfish or stained-glass-gone-plastic.

Check out Gülnur's blog and Etsy Shop for more info/purchase opportunities

"Piece Together For Peace"

From Graflex Directions, this project depicts the twelve animals of the (Japanese) Zodiac using pieces of the world - literally. I know it's not current, but I just found it and we all know how I just adore maps and cartographic things!

Garden Gun 5.1

Brought to you by Design Reaktor Berlin this epic water gun , according to the translation of the description, juxtaposes the vitality of water with the destruction of a handgun to create a concept of pure fun - at least, that's how I see it! Who else wants one?

MFEO

Made For Each Other - the penultimate romantic phrase - the title of songs, poems, and now *drumroll please!* ...Frito-Lay advertisements?

One of the cuter ads I've seen lately (watch it in HD - this might require you to view it on YouTube)

LEGO leading the way

Okay, so we all want our business cards to be memorable and inspiring, creative and class but seriously, no one can top LEGO's business cards:

Apparently, they even customize the mini-you to match your physical appearance! I am so unbelievably jealous.

wining and dining

Labeling and packaging for Shefa Wines by nine99design, how cool is this?
Shefa, Hebrew for 'profusion' is label for young Israeli wines and the label design is supposed to visualize "the rich and flowing taste of the wine. all of the items are created with recycled materials." according to nine99. I wonder how the wine is...

Confusion

Confusionis an artistic installation by Bulgarian artist Pravdoliub Ivanov, or Pravdo for short. I totally want one; they really make you go "wait, what?" and as you all know, I love stuff like that.

constructive eating

Okay, so this is definitely a product targeted at toddlers and their parents but THIS IS SO COOL. From Flying Peas, these utensils are possibly the cutest set ever. My parents never told me not to play with my food, and I can't imagine telling my kids anything different - and with 'silverware' like this, who wouldn't want to?

Sprint + NASCAR = beauty?

Below are two of Sprint's new commercials for both the Sprint Cup Series and Sprint's new NASCAR FanView for keeping up with the Cup on your phone. These commercials are super cool, reminiscent of my recent obsession with light painting. Take a look!

IMPRESSive

The Impress foamy touchscreen from Dis.Play Not really sure if the 'AWESOME!' outweighs the 'So what do we DO with it?' but it's still really awesome!
From Dis.Play...

Impress is the deliverance of the touch screen from its technical stiffness, coldness and rigidity. It breaks the distance in the relationship of human and technology, because it is not any longer the user which is subjected to technology, but in this case the display itself has to cave in to the human. Impress is a chance of approach of user and technology, above all, from technology.

SunCat Solar Cells

Okay, so I really don't know what to say about these. Developed by Knut Karlsen to be more convenient and, eventually, efficient. I have to say, I have a love-hate relationship with batteries. They're really, truly awful but oh god, the convenience... I honestly don't know what I would do if batteries ceased to exist. I tried using those rechargeable ones from I think Panasonic or something that are ridiculously expensive and come with a plug-in charger - well guess what, you can only recharge them three or so times before they stop holding their charge and become totally useless. Great. Well Knut has a solution: solar powered batteries. For all the technical stuff that I don't understand, go talk to Knut

Molly Moon: Taking Seattle By Storm

Okay, so I've been holding out on you. I've known about Molly Moon's for months but I've been keeping it to myself - my sweet, creamy, amazing little secret - but I just can't anymore!

Molly Moon Neitzel created the show in Spring of 2008 and it has been love, sweet love, ever since! Located on 45th Avenue NE across the street from the Wallingford Center in Wallingford, her shop is just across the freeway from campus and is too convenient to pass up. With signature flavors like Salted Caramel and this ridiculous sundae involving bergamot infused olive oil, her shop takes 'ice cream boutique' to a whole new level and gives back to the community, too! With a mission to use as many local products as possible, all organic ingredients and 100% compostable spoons and bowls, Molly's shop might be the (eco)friendliest ice cream place around. Over the summer, the line into her shop was around the corner even at 10pm, mostly students (not so) patiently waiting for their little scoop of heaven.

grass

Self-explanatory project that I totally want for my desk:

“Grass” squares are designed to give a natural touch to the office or home by placing them freely or according to feng-shui. Unlike ordinary flowers, “grass” is completely natural, a piece of earth, that grows indoors with minimal care. Inspired by Frank loyed Wright’s Fallingwater and the attempt to combine architecture and nature, the entire project is made from recycled materials and tries to merge the home with the outdoors.

More honey

From the October issue of New York Magazine's feature of Hilary Berseth and his amazing honeycomb artwork. As I understand it, Berseth creates wax and wire frames and lets his little black and yellow friends do all the work. The frame goes into a box in the spring, the colonies do their thing, and in the winter, he harvests his art, seen below.

Mr. Moustachio

Another trend I've noticed whilst surfing around is the prominence of moustache accessories. Weird, right? Well here are a few cute examples...
