home couture

More from the upcoming Milan Salone Satellite 09 - Fredrik Färg uses recycled felt to create these amazing chair designs. Tell me these tailed furnishings are not absolutely fantastic - I dare you.
RE:cover - Bespoke dresses for old chairs. The project looks to the beauty of those shapes that never change. Fredrik takes his inspiration from classic tailoring, such as suits and
dinner jackets that never go out of style. By using old chairs from flea markets and removing the backrest, replacing it with a new textile dress/structure
of mouldable polyester felt, he is creating “slow fashion” furniture, giving the old chairs a new glance.
Material: Old chairs and a new cover of 100% recyclable polyester felt.

flower power II

Totally diggin these sakura-like table + lamp pair, 'Hana' (Jp. for flower) by Shige Hasegawa Design on display at the Salone Satellite for the Milan Furniture Fair 22-27 April.

From Shige Hasegawa:
Theme of the show is Flower (Hana in Japanese ). And I use Origami (folding paper) technique to design the table and the light. Hana table is made by 5 plywood legs. These legs are all same shape and they stand by themselves. It has no screws or nails to hold the 1100φglass top. Also it will be easy packing. Hana stretch is made by iron frame and stretch fabric. The fabric has zipper and can be taken off and washed. Also has color variations.

iPhone, schmiphone

Kyocera has recently revealed a revolutionary new cell phone design: the EOS. Powered by kinetic energy, the more you use it, the more energy it accumulates/stores! Even cooler: the semi-rigid polymer and OLED display allow the phone to fold, wallet-style. Now don't get TOO excited - Kyocera has caveated this release by reminding us that it's still under development, but it's still a super awesome concept!

es-CAPE-ades

Okay, totally in love with this cape-y coat - so angry it's out of stock but seriously, a-ma-zing.

Happy tax day

Happy tax day! Just kidding. Like most people, I'm not a huge fan - but I do have a cute joke for you :)

A Dutchman and an American were discussing the history and meaning of their respective flags; the Dutchman says to the American "You know, our flag really represents how we feel about taxes: we get red with anger when we hear about them, turn white when we have to pay them and afterwards we feel really blue!" The American says, "Oh yeah? Ours is like that too - but we also see stars!"

:) NOW GET THOSE FORMS IN!

Rojkind and Nestle Together Again

Remember this post on the new Nestlé Chocolate Museum outside Mexico City? Well, Nestle was so pleased with Michel Rojkind's work (and firm) they commissioned him to create another complex for them! Located in Querétaro (northwest of Mexico City) featuring lab spaces, offices, auditoriums and a tasting room! To be honest, I like this site + project way more, but they're both totally awesome.

artist of the month: franc grom

Okay, so I don't exactly celebrate Easter (although zombies ARE pretty cool...) but I still love decorating eggs, going on hunts and all the cute bunny-inspired stuff that appears this time of year. Slovenian artist Franc Grom has developed an absolutely amazing process of egg-inspired art, creating a thoroughly unique and awe-inspiring product - making Franc Grom the artist of the month!

My karma ran over your dogma

Thanks to Fisker, my karma can literally mow you down! Fisker has released it's new "eco chic" luxury plug-in hybrid: the Karma. Retailing at $87,000, their commercial - released last month - specifically targets the Los Angeles area clientele. Delivery to the first 1,000 clients is scheduled for completion by the end of the year.

The 22.6-kilowatt-hour lithium ion battery will be supplemented by a 2.0-liter turbocharged, direct injection engine made by GM, that acts as generator / range extender. The Karma is expected to have a range of 50 miles on battery power and an additional 250 miles once the generator kicks in.

LOVE THIS. Totally adorable "Titiana" dress by Erin Fetherston - 100% silk and $1,400 makes it less than available for me, but STILL.

Try to outrun this...

Earlier this year, the luxury car company, Automobili Lamborghini donated their latest model: the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 (Polizia) to the Italian State Police. This is the third Gallardo model donated to the polizia since 2004, withstanding the test of time: clocking more than 87,000 miles in just five years, and requiring nothing more than routine maintenance. With a 560 HP engine, allowing the Polizia to reach speeds of up to 203 mph, these high-tech super sports cars are more than just an amazing resource, but also - imaginably - a bit of a deterrent. Who'd try and outmaneuver (or worse, outrun!) police outfitted in one of these.
